Organic raku-fired wall
forms and functional bright majolica glazed earthenware characterize
the ceramic repertoire of Luisa Kingsdale. A ceramic artist and
student for ten years, she has explored the multitude of methodologies
in ceramic artistry but will be showcasing these two particular
techniques. Luisa describes the various shapes and sizes of her
wall art pieces as simple in form but very complex in color and
meant to invoke sentiments of nature. She is drawn to the unpredictability
and unusual results associated with the raku-firing process which
guarantees a unique piece of work. On the other hand, the functional
wheel-thrown earthenware is meant to be homogeneous in it's utilitarian
forms. The forms she creates include bowls and platters of various
sizes, mugs, tumblers, pitchers, tea pots, vases, and many other
useful items. The mixing of bright colored glazes and coupling
of simple geometric shapes create very playful works of art that
invite the owner to use them on a daily basis.
